Realm of Riches Slots
It feels like there could be a hundred better names for this game than Realm of Riches, but that is what they chose for this Knight-themed game. This is an older game, so there are some aspects that shouldn’t be held against it, but reality is reality, and this game could use some updating. That being said, there are still aspects of this game that some players will truly enjoy. Combine that with the nostalgia of returning to a simpler time in computing, and you will get a sweet spot that many players will enjoy.
Welcome Back to the 90s
There is no way around the fact that these graphics look like they are from the late '90s or early aughts. There isn’t really a background to speak of other than the tops of a couple of towers poking out behind the game board. Most of what you see is the board itself with a plain background, the game’s controls, and winning-line indicators. None of this is a particular treat for the eyes, but it doesn’t help that there isn’t much detail applied.
The most egregious symbols are the face card symbols, which are already cliched enough, but the developers put very little effort into them. The font is plain, there are multiple colors, but they are all pretty faded, and the background behind the letters and numbers is pretty nondescript. Unfortunately, these are the base symbols in the game, so you see more of them than the others. There are a decent amount of other symbols, including a knight, a helmet, a queen (not to be confused with the Q), and a castle. There are two more symbols used for the bonus features, which we will discuss later.
The music is a surprising upside to this game. One would think it would be pretty bland, like the graphics, but it is actually fun and theme-fitting. It is almost an entire symphony but it also has elements of action and adventure that you would see from a period epic of this time. What’s exceptionally nice about the sound effects is they lower tones so they aren’t so jarring, but they still add to the excitement and ambiance as sound effects should.
The Riches of the Realm
It makes sense that this game is called the Realm of Riches because it gives that feeling of the crusades, but are there any riches involved here? The answer is somewhere in the middle because they do offer bonus features with potential, but they are far from being the best in the market. Then again, based on the game's age, these features could have been pretty progressive when the game was first developed.
The wild feature is pretty standard. The King’s crown represents it and can replace any symbol in the game except the scatter symbol. Unlike many games, the wild can land on any reel, and multiple wilds can land on the same reel. So, while there isn’t much else to the wild, the sheer amount you see in the game can lead to significant payouts.
The true special feature of this game is simple yet effective. A shield with a coat of arms is how the scatter symbol is displayed, and it can lead to a significant number of free spins. Unfortunately, unlike other games that only require a certain number of scatters to land on the board, this game requires them to land in a line from left to right. Three scatters get you ten free spins, four gets you fifteen, and five gets you twenty-five. It is essential to note that all of these free spins are based on your stake when you activate the feature, so that cannot be changed after you activate it.
Not Bad; Just Needs an Update
You can see the direction they were going with this game, and at the time it was released, it was probably state-of-the-art. Unfortunately, the graphics are a little outdated, although the theme song is still a banger. The features are also a little on the tame side compared to some of the more exciting features that they have today. On the flip side, this game is about as simple as it gets, so if you want some mind-numbing spinning with decent background music, this may be the exact game for which you’ve been looking.
